Weird Science

6 Oct

Today my daughter and I did weird science. Sadly no Ken doll was involved. We got a 2 liter bottle of coke and menthos the fresh maker and blew that up. It was a lot of fun. Safely blowing up something is a lot of fun. I actually meant to do this while at my dads this summer but, forgot about doing it until we were actually home again ah well. Then thanks to subbing for a specific teachers class Thanks Al. He had a book on his desk and it is called fire bubbles and exploding toothpaste. We did the exploding toothpaste. It was a lot of fun. If you do this experiment go to a sally’s beauty supply or a pharmacy for your 12% hydrogen peroxide and you might need to use the whole bottle of food coloring instead of a few drops. We used a few drops and there was no color to our explosion sadly it was just white and very fizzy. Still a lot of fun to play with after it came out of the reused coke bottle. Just remember to get the funnel out of the way asap.

I am feeling much better I got about 13 hours of sleep after getting maybe 5 on Tuesday night and that is on the more positive end of things in truth it felt more like 3.

Today my appetite has returned due to no more fever wahooooooooooooooooo! I have not been eating that much due to not being able to smell much. So we got a medium pizza from Pizza Hut. I ate half the pizza and still feel a bit hungry but, will probably not eat much for dinner. This has been forbidden by my husband since he does not like their pizza and wants us to do pick up instead of being lazy and having delivery. Plus he does not want any smells due to his VMR BS.

Tomorrow on Friday is get picture taken for passport since the state I live in does not have a “federally recognized” id. So my drivers license will not cut it even to fly in the US. Plus this give me the perfect excuse to fly internationally so thanks US government for giving me the push I need to get my passport. I am not sure if my daughter will need to get hers as well but, I plan on getting hers done during her spring break or sooner. Plus my daughter will get to do more science stuff at the local library. Hope it will be furn.

under the weather

5 Oct

It is fall break and I have the worst sinus infection. I cant breathe out of my nose and am so stuffed up. I have been using clariton which is not helping very much a herbal concoction that is supposed to help with my sinuses. Still not much help. I have been using a netti pot which has been helping along with using vicks vapo rub on my nose and cheekbones that has been helping more. I have also been having a mild fever 100.2-99.2 or so. I normally dont let it get too high before I take some tylenol to bring it down. The only “good” thing is since I am so stuffed up is my appetite has not been the greatest. Spicy foods seem to help a bit until I lay down then I have the worst gerd it really is not very fun. So now I have been having to sleep sitting up on the couch. The only thing that appeals to me are liquids like coffee, water, lemonade, I even like my daughters caprisun which normally is too sweet for me.

Our fall break has been a bit of fun we went and saw a movie, went out to lunch, saw my mom since my dad was unable to make it out for a visit due to health reasons.

Still no word on whether we are moving but, I promise to keep folks posted.

If anyone has any suggestions for the sinus hades I currently am in I am all for any.

Until next time.

Fall and Move?

8 Sep

Fall seems to have arrived and I already miss the heat and warmer temperatures. Now I have to wear a jacket and actual shoes instead of my flip flops. One nice thing about the cooler temperatures is that I no longer have to feel guilty for baking and as a result having the A/C turn on.

We might be moving I will enjoy the adventure if we do but, the actual act of packing up of all our possessions is very daunting. My husband has give or take about five bookcases filled with books most of them he has not read. He says he will get rid of most of it but,I somehow seriously doubt this will happen. It will be tough on our daughter since she will have to move away from friends and everything that is familiar. I hope that if we do move that it is easier for her to make friends than it was on me when I moved.

I know that I have not once said anything about Charlotte nor the hurricanes that may and have affected the US but, I will say that despite our skin color, creed or nationality we all bleed the same color, we all have almost the same problems from time to time. We should all be kind to each other no matter where we are in life. I hope that all the people who have been affected by the strong storms both here in the US and in India are getting the necessities that they need to survive and are able to rebuild their lives as best they can.

Eclipse and other news

17 Aug

My daughter’s school district finally decided to call school off for the eclipse. This is good because otherwise there was going to be a death in the family or “cough” “cough” I think I am coming down with something. Wink wink.

Seriously though there really has been a death in the family. My dad sisters husband died he suffered a heart attack while driving. Thankfully a couple of nurses were nearby once the car was stopped (not sure how) and had to start chest compressions. Either during transport or while at a hospital his body began to fill up with CO2 and then something happened to his brain. His wife made the very hard decision to pull the plug. Wow I am not sure I could do that without losing it before, during and after. Since there was no will his estate now has to go through probate. I am wanting to encourage most folks to either meet with a lawyer soon and draw up a will or at least write something down and have it notarized at the very least. We are all given a finite number of days to live so live each day to its fullest.

I have figured out something that I really love to bake it is therapeutic for me and helps me to destress a bit or even when I am anxious or just for fun too. I have not made anything really new except for more blueberry scones and even one of my cats loves a good scone no matter what the flavor. Silly kitty.

The other thing that helps me to relax unless I am under a deadline like trying to make your child her first teddy bear by the holidays and you have gotten behind due to child care demands and other demands in life. I love to knit so these are a few things I have made recently. Well I would love to show them to you but sadly my computer has decided there is some sort of error. I made two washcloths out of hemp one is a lovely forest green with a basket weave design in it and the other is grey and just knitted all rows. I have also made 3 bibs and 3 burp cloths for my sister in law who will be having a baby soon. I will be getting started on a teddy bear for my niece and hope to have it done before she is born. I have made one other basket weave washcloth out of cotton for my friends birthday or maybe holiday present I have not decided yet. I am currently making another knitted washcloth for my dad again for the holiday or his birthday. I am making myself a scar out of hemp. Just for something fancy to wear not for warmth it has a lacy pattern to it.
Hopefully I can show you the washcloths in another post. Sorry about mo pictures this time.

Squee News I forgot to share

10 Aug

I got this beauty on the 28th of July

Her name is Bettie as in Bettie Page sexy and classy. NOW the schools will have nothing to complain about regarding my car because this one is not a Heap or the Millenium Falcon for those Star Wars fans aka always needing repairs or just plain ol breaking down. Plus absolutely NO stickers on it except for my temporary tag until I get my license plate.

Hello Kitty steering wheel cover check. Cup holders wow what a luxury. I had none with my other car. So you can imagine how nice this actually is. Soon as I get my new license plate I will add my Hello Kitty frame for it on the back of my car. Plus when I have more money I will get Hello Kitty car seat covers. Still will have Hello Kitty but, a bit more subtle.

Last week and the start of school

9 Aug

Here is what I baked up last week for dessert it is on page 83 in he Vegan Desserts cookbook I featured earlier.

Yup it is pink the frosting but, my daughter talked me into making it pink. It is a light pink. I once again did not follow directions for the cupcakes. I did not strain out the seeds. Instead I decided to leave it in and really there was not too much difference. They might have been a bit crunchy in a few places but, not too bad over all.

This is my last bit of protest since school will be starting in a few short days ARRRGH! I have really been enjoying my summer as I am sure that most folks have. I tried to make frowny faces not sure if you can tell on my nails but, I did try.

26 Jul

This is what I have had for breakfast for the past few days.

Granted I managed to make 6 of them. They are strawberry scones with some almonds in. I also used 1 cup of almond flour instead of 2 cups of all purpose flour. I got the recipe from 1000 vegan recipes by Robin Robertson.

This has been my desert. It is super easy to make. Take a tablespoon of chia seeds, a cup of milk, 2 teaspoons of maple syrup or other liquid sweetener of your choice, and a teaspoon of cocoa powder. Put all of it in a container you can shake for about 30 seconds or so. Then stick in the fridge for instant chia pudding that is so good, not too sweet and healthy for you too. It is a win win. I added a few raspberries for a bit of color and something sweet to eat too. Plus I got another healthy serving of fruit. Yea! I might have the proportions wrong so you might want to check Ruby Roths Help Yourself cookbook for kids or online. Have fun and enjoy!

On a different note I am done with my training that I need to do so I can be a substitute teacher again. Honestly not sure how I feel about this one again. I am just not looking forward to having to get up so early again. It is very hard for me to get up in the mornings especially when there is no sun to help wake me up.

We have gotten my daughters schools supplies done and out of the way. She really didnt need all that much for school.

I am trying to get a new/used car before school starts, since I feel like I am terribly judged by the car I drive. Yes it is not that pretty, yes it is 20 years old but, it is paid for and is reliable. It just needs a power steering pump which will cost me about what the car is currently worth. So not really looking into getting that fixed. Until I can find a new/used car in my price range then the rest of the world will just have to suck it up and deal.

20 Jul

I have been using a few seasonal deserts from this cookbook

Yeah just tip your screen or computer sideways oops. Sorry about that. Not sure what happened to it.

This is what I made last week.

It was supposed to be the blueberry bundt cake from the book featured above. A bit of forewarning this particular author really likes her deserts sweet. I followed this one to a T and it was too sweet even for me. I did not have a bundt pan like I thought I did hence the need for two of the pie pans.

I made the blueberry biscotti and unfortunately they ended up flat instead of more cookie like but, still really tasty and I used half the sugar this time.

Next up not sure but, it depends on what seasonal fruits I can find.

Hope you are enjoying the seasons bounty while it lasts.

Summer break

6 Jul

Summer break has been AWESOME! I am RELAXED. I went for a week in June to visit my dad we had a lot of fun doing stuff like seeing museums, we went to a farm sanctuary got to see some really awesome animals including super cute angora bunnies (if I could have brought one home with me on the plane I would have done it) and hung out. My birthday this year was a 10 unlike last year when it was a -10. I took my daughter to her science camp where she had a lot of fun and I got to get caught up on balancing my check book something that has not happened for 5 months argh. I always say I wont let it get that bad again but, I always manage to not do it.

I will (un)fortunately be going back as a substitute teacher. I have learned a lot as a sub and my goal this year is to only sub 3 days a week and no Fridays are right out, not get called on the carpet for stupid aka petty, crazy things.

I will now be driving the HK mobile or the Hello Kitty mobile. I put a few hello kitty decals on my car. I figure if the school district is going to complain about one bumper sticker lets see if they will complain about Hello Kitty. I really dont care if the kids complain. Heck I even went so far as to get a hello kitty lunch box, a backpack and purse. Yeah I might have gone over board but, not really caring in the least. Yes I am a grown woman but, lets face it Hello Kitty has been pretty much timeless. Started in the early 70’s and is still going strong.

3 May

Pepsi tried to air a commercial but, for whatever reason it was pulled as offensive.

Here is the link and a chance to view the offensive video and see for yourself if you think it is actually offensive.

My personal opinion is that it is NOT offensive in fact I actually find it more empowering than anything else. I am not a corporate slut and do not flaunt my coach bag, my whatever etc by whatever big corporation. If you must know my preferred drink is water, coffee, and chai tea in no particular order and if I get it from a huge corporation then so be it but, I do not flaunt. I will honorably mention hipsters for sisters etc.

So is this offensive to you? Do you think this add should have been pulled? Let me know what your thoughts are.
