Good News Bad News

15 Dec

I had a hard time with this on deciding what order to type this post out.   So I decided to start with the good news.

The good news is that my daughter has earned her yellow belt in Tae Kwan Do.  She had been wanting to do Tae Kwan Do since kindergarden so now that I have a car to myself I can take her.  All of the kids were amazing and did a great job to earn their belts.  I am so proud of my daughter!  This was the best ending to an otherwise crappy week.

Now to back track.

Sunday my daughter wanted to play with a friend of hers so I took her over and picked her up.  We always walk by this house and they have a female dog that I think is a German Shepard mix.    She always barks at me and I dont mind because I know she is protecting her family and her bark is not particularly mean or vicious.  I also took note that all the kids were out playing in the front yard.  No worries.

Monday morning at around 4 am apparently a gentleman from another state walked into their house (we are a small town and most folks know each other and keep an eye out) so yes their front door was unlocked.  He walked in and grabbed a knife from this families kitchen.  Went upstairs and stabbed repeatedly this 6 year old boy in the head and neck!   His older sister fought the man and got cut for her efforts.  She also called 911.  The father was able to subdue him until police arrived.

My neighbor told me about what happened to say I was in shock and horrified because I just saw them playing for crying out loud the day before this horrific event happened is an understatement.

I have been seriously freaked out about this and have not slept well all week.  Partially due to what happened and because I have had a major sinus ick happening and have been barking at the moon most nights.  Sleep has been an illusive mistress for me.  I was really freaked out Monday night and would wake up to almost every noise outside.  l have even asked my father in law to change out our front door.  The reason being is that our front door is mostly made out of glass and from a thief/break in all a person has to do is break out the glass and if skinny enough come through the door that way.  No need to bother with unlocking the door.

I have heard about violent events happening but, have never been this close to something.  I know that a lot of people have been right in the thick of something violent but, this really hits home for me since my daughter is the same age as this boy was.  My heart goes out to this family and I hope that one day they will be able to enjoy the holidays.  This year I just hope they find and have a little bit of peace that they deserve.    I know it will take time for this family to heal.

Why am I sharing this?  I want folks to be more aware of their surroundings instead of looking at their to do lists, shopping lists, or their phones.  Always look up and take in your surroundings.  As I have been told if you  are aware and looking around you are less likely to become a victim of a violent crime or even robbed.  Plus ALWAYS lock your doors  even in a small town because you never know when some idiot might decide to do something horrible.  Plus if you are able fight back you are less likely to be taken somewhere for even worse things to happen.

Stay safe this holiday season!

Powerful documentaries

3 Dec

Here is a link to a few powerful upcoming documentaries…http://www.care2.com/causes/8-new-films-that-aim-to-change-the-world-for-animals.html?z00m=27174564. Huntwatch trailer should not be watched with youngsters near by. I have to admit that I cried on this one and had to go give my beautiful Noel a big hug. It was hard to watch and not scream out no and “run” even though you know in the end what more than likely was the end result. Blood Lions is another one that was hard to watch but, a bit less graphic to watch but still hard to watch. Cowspiracy is a great film and I watched it on Netflicks basically if you are Vegan or even Vegetarian you are helping to save our world forget the light bulbs, taking shorter showers, driving a more fuel conserving car, and recycling although still good things to do but, by eating no meat it really helps. Just remember cows, pigs, chickens, and other creatures most people call food do NOT have a bathroom so it just goes on and in the ground.

Another great documentary I watched was Pump also on Netflicks. It discusses how America the land of the mostly free and how consumers have lots of choices except for one thing what we put in our cars. I personally live in a community that has no flex fuel, ethanol, or methanol stations to be found.

At least one holiday is over and now on to two more. If you want to find a great gift for someone do a donation to a charity for animals or something that you know they are passionate about. You could save another life this holiday season.

I know it seems weird to dedicate a post but, I want to dedicate this one to all those who have no voice. I really hope that those of us who have a voice use it to change the world in which we live in for all beings. I also hope that those who are courageous enough to bring light to atrocities that are being done to those without a voice continue to do what they can to change the world as well. Thank you for your dedication and hard work.
