Garden

30 Apr

Today has been busy.  It has rained a lot so the ground is really soft and squishy so I decided to take the time to weed out our little garden area and dig up the grass and other things that we do not need.  I got most of the way done before I started to feel like I was getting too hot from the sun. I also transplanted our baby bean plant into a medium sized pot so that way when we move it will be easier for the plant to come with us.

Not sure what to do with my strawberry plants when we move.  I will probably dig them up and put them in pots too.  I do not want our neighbor to just mow it over like he tends to do.

I still need to transplant the basil plant along with my tulips will either try for later today or tomorrow.  I will get it done as soon as I can.  I am just glad the severe storms hit Tennessee and Arkansas.  I do feel bad for the folks that got the tornados and other nastiness that we did not get.

I will post pictures of the garden area once I get it all done.

Nestea Plunge

29 Apr

We have decided to take the plunge and buy our first house together.  It is exciting and frightening at the same time.  Exciting because the place will be ours to do with as we please.  Frightening because we will now have more debt to pay off.  I really hope it will be worth the effort.

We talked with my husbands parents about the house and I asked him aka my father in law if it would be ok if we put a kitty door in the basement door and he said he did not care what we did since it will be our house.  Plus my mother in law asked me what colors I wanted to paint the house I told her that I was ok with eggshell white and she said that I needed to stop acting like I was renting a place and think bigger.  Honestly I have not even thought about colors for the interior and am actually perfectly happy with eggshell white. Too funny.

It will be a change but, I really hope a change for the better.  We can do with the yard as we want to and actually have a real honest garden.  I love that.   The down side is that we will be further away from the “big city” and will be living in a smaller town and more gas for the car and my husbands motorcycle.

It will be an adjustment for us but, I think we will survive it.

Will post pictures of the outside and inside as soon as I can.

Slow day

26 Apr

Friday has been a slow day.   Thursday we did our grocery shopping so that is done for now.  I basically told my husband that we were not allowed to get anything new/old unless it is an essential.  Food and clothes are the essentials.  I will let a book pass IF it is something we have been wanting for awhile.  This is good because I will probably be placing an Amazon order sometime soon.  There are a few books that I want to get before our daughter starts school.  They are basically “cookbooks” for lunches. I need better ideas than the old standby of PBJ not that there is anything wrong with PBJ but, I would like for her to have a bit more variety.  So will be ordering them soonish.  This will be good for us to do.  We will save money and hopefully have more money to help us move to our new location.  It is still not a done deal yet, but we should know more by the end of the week with any luck.

I did tell my father in law (the owner of the house we will be buying/renting) to not touch the floors.  He was wanting to put fake wood floor laminate on it.  No thank you.  I would rather have wood floors with stains than fake flooring.  Plus our home is pretty much doomed anyway for stains I do have a daughter, 2 cats, a rabbit, myself, and my husband.  All I love dearly and am ok sacrificing “perfect” floors for something with stains.  I am looking forward to moving into a place with no carpeting since I am very allergic to dust mites, and dust in general.  Plus this will be nice, I will only have to sweep and mop instead of vacuuming as well.  The fake laminate would be gross with the smell of the glues used plus it is a petroleum product as well just a big yuck to it.

I did manage to get a basil plant yesterday at the grocery store/co op.  Yea pesto!  I was wanting one to make it and now I have it.  Perfect! Now with the exception of wanting a few pansy plants my garden is almost complete.

Want to join us in our no shopping for a few months?  Just let me know and you know the exceptions that are allowed.  Sorry cant say no to a good book.  E books are allowed as well they really dont give you any physical clutter just digital but, so much easier to pack lets face it.   The other exception are car or other motorized vehicle repairs as well if you need an oil change or other repairs for your car or whatever then be safe rather than sorry.  Again no clutter inside your home.

Review

25 Apr

Today I had the opportunity and privilege to post a review regarding my hip belt bag.

I have been using it for awhile now basically since my daughters birthday.  It is a fabulous bag and I love being hands free and not having to worry about where to put it in the car or even worse putting it down and then forgetting about it.  I love just carrying the essentials in this bag.  I cant wait to take it on vacation.

If you want something to be free from all the clutter we women stuff in our bags then I encourage you to go to http://www.hipstersforsisters.com to find your freedom and as for style well they are very stylish and will for sure pass the black tie evening if that is your thing.

Growth

24 Apr

Image We have beans, peas and carrots starting to sprout. ImageFor starters here is what is growing at our house.

We also got our daughter registered for school for now where we live.  That was fun filing out a bunch of paperwork and even bringing what I was asked to bring for proof of where we live.  I was told to bring two bills in since we do not have a lease where we are currently living.  I then find out sorry not good enough you must bring in a letter grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.   Cant people just make up their minds instead of telling you it will be fine to bring in something else when it obviously isnt fine?  Still she is registered.

Unofficially we decided to buy the house.  No paperwork has been signed yet.  I am looking somewhat forward to this because this means that hopefully we will not have to move because rent goes up a lot, or the owner is selling the property.  It will be ours to do with as we please.  This means that we will have a backyard that we can turn into if we want a full blown garden.  WAHOO!

The downside is of course the packing and moving of our stuff. I really hate doing that since I am usually the lucky idiot who does most of it and by most I mean 95% of it.

So right now I am doing my best to purge and get rid of as much stuff as I can so I wont be forced or tempted to just dump it all on the side of the road.

Today I got rid of 2 of my business suits mainly because I dont wear them any more the joy and sorrow of being a stay at home mom.  It freed up more closet space getting rid of these items and frankly I have not worn them for 5 + years.  No idea why I held onto them for so long guess it was mainly guilt.  I also got rid of one of my daughter’s shirts that she doesnt like to wear…..shh dont tell her otherwise she will be quite upset with me for getting rid of it.  Honestly though if she is not comfortable in the shirt why keep it?

Will let you know when it becomes “official” on the house.

Earth Day

23 Apr

Today aka yesterday according to wordpress is Earth Day.  Today I encourage you to do something nice for the Earth whether it is planting a plant or tree or signing a petition that has an environmental theme to it.  Whatever you do get outside and enjoy the day fly a kite, take a walk, go to a park, or have a picnic.

Some random Earth friendly tips that help you to be kind to our one and Only planet that we all call home in no particular order

  • Wash your clothes in cold water

  • Use a line dryer to dry your clothes

  • If in the market for a new tech gadget or appliance choose an energy star

  • Walk, bicycle,  or ride the bus to work or school

  • Eat less meat

  • Grow something

  • Consume less

There are probably others that I am not thinking of but, add your own as you think of them.

Have fun today!

Panic and MIA

22 Apr

Late last night I panicked over a missing shirt it is one of my favorite shirts.  I had slowly been making the transition of winter clothes to spring/summer clothes and could not find my beloved black shirt that I knew I had worn last week.  I searched my closet thinking it might have fallen off the hanger as I was moving my clothes around.  No luck.  Then I checked my laundry bag not there either.  Then I checked my drying rack downstairs thinking I might have left it on there after washing it because it was not quite dry.  Not there either.  Then the sudden realization that I might have gotten rid of it to Goodwill even though I made sure that the other black shirt I was getting rid of was the one I wanted to get rid of.  Ut oh, where on earth could it be?  Then I just decided that I needed sleep more than panicking over a shirt and if it really was at Goodwill well, obviously someone else needs the shirt more than I do. Plus I can always try and order another one.

This morning I once again checked my black laundry bag and guess what I found.  It  must have either blended in even though I swear I pulled everything out last night and did not see it.  Ah, well I feel silly panicking over it and being angry with myself for nothing but, at least I knew it was missing and that I really did not loose it.

I knew it was missing because I was trying to find this particular shirt to wear for Monday.  Thanks to downsizing my wardrobe a lot and not having so many pieces.  Plus my closet is no longer stuffed to the gills with clothes.  It takes a lot less time to get ready in the mornings and you know right away when your favorite shirt is now missing.
